The MLS Archives is pleased to announce it has acquired via auction a special piece of memorabilia to further round out its mission of having a game worn home and away jersey from every team for every year they have been in Major League Soccer.
The new piece added to the collection is a 2004 New York MetroStars home jersey which was worn by Amado Guevara during the course of the season.
2004 was a breakout season for Amado Guevara his second in the league after signing with New York in 2003. Guevara played in 24 games named a starter in all but on eof those matches. During his 2110 minutes of playing time he scored 10 goals and added 10 assists while recording 65 shots. As a result Guevara took MLS scoring champ honors for 2003 and was named the Metrostars MVP and Major League Soccer's MVP building on the MVP honor bestowed upon him at MLS All Star game played in Washington, D.C were he scored 2 goals 2 minutes apart in an East versus West format match.
The jersey was acquired via a charity auction run by Real Salt Lake. The proceeds from the auction go to Soccer Unites Utah organization which will use the funds to help defray the costs of the medical procedures Marcia Williams (wife of Real Salt Lake midfielder Andy Williams) is currently undergoing to stay one step ahead in her battle against Leukemia.
